In the early days of Sevier I had a customer (let's call her Anne) who would come into the skirt shop about twice a year. Anne was taller and had a large hip size...maybe around a size 16/18. Women with her frame typically can’t find anything that fits in the shops in The Gulch or downtown Franklin and most probably struggle with finding something she wants to wear that actually FITS.
But you’d never know finding fashionable clothing in a 16/18 was a struggle by looking at Anne. She always looked so polished and put together when she came in to see me. She always wore heels and a nice blouse or top paired with one of her Sevier skirts, which was always a huge compliment to me. Anne looked GREAT in my skirts and still does. She is radiant.
It is women like Anne that I admire. It is women like Anne who don’t apologize about not being smaller. It is women like Anne who know their bodies and how to dress them.
Sadly, the fashion industry has let women like Anne down. It really has been up to them to find ways to look and feel great, despite a noticeable lack of support from the industry as a whole. Everyone remembers Melissa McCarthy’s famous struggle with finding fashionable red carpet looks, which led to her building a beautiful clothing line. Just this past weekend, fashion guru Tim Gunn chatted with NPR’s On Point about the fashion industry’s need to work harder on fit.
But that’s why I love what I do. I get to provide the solution to this universal problem.
Since those early days I have helped tons of plus size customers add beautiful pieces to their wardrobe. Like Anne, they really care about fashion, but feel underwhelmed (or completely pissed about) what shops offer them. I LOVE working customers like this because I know a Sevier skirt will provide the solution they’ve been searching for. I feel their excitement when they shop with me. We both get giddy when we see how flattering the sevier pencil is on them. They are the first to email me in excitement and joy when they get their skirts in the mail. Not to be selfish, but what a high for me.
Sevier Skirts loves to fit women of ALL shapes and sizes. We don’t “do sizes”, we do FIT. Sevier celebrates that no two women are shaped the same. That’s why we ask you to encourage any women that you know and love who may struggle to find something the love that fits and flatters to reach out to Sevier Skirts. I look forward to receiving her beaming testimonial!
